ADHD is on a rise!!
What will we do about it?
What's Fast, Easy and Inexpensive for ADHD?
In preparation for a recent radio show I was astonished with the fact that the drugs routinely used to treat ADHD can be so terribly dangerous and even deadly... My conclusion is, for goodness sake mothers, try the one week allergy diet in my best-selling book entitled "Is This Your Child" before you even think about drugs.
The diet is reported to help over 66% of the children. They were 80-95% better within 5 to 7 days, if the ADHD was due to common allergenic to foods. (Many parents never even consider or are never told by a Dr. that the cause of the ADHD may stem from and an allergy)
Others were helped in a day or less if they used a quality air purifier that removed dust, molds, pollen and 3000 chemicals from the air, if this was the cause of their ADHD. If they used both the diet and the purifier the results were even better!! The best I have found to date is the Austin Air Purifier. See DrRapp.com for more info.
The side effects from the drugs can range from simply not nice to frightening and ominous. Parents are often not well or completely misinformed about the serious things that have happened to some children. I doubt if many know that it has been reported that children aged 7 to 19, who use drugs to treat their ADHD, are 4 to 5 times more likely to die of a heart attack than children who do not use such drugs. This is especially true if they have had some history of past heart disease, obesity or asthma.
Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin, Quillivant, Adderal, and Dexedrine ) are all stimulants used for hyperactivity or ADHD and can all, in some individuals lead to immediate or later in life drug abuse, addiction, and drug dependence.
The side effects can include many medical symptoms, and some develop heart symptoms such as increased blood pressure, a fast and/or irregular heart beats or even a stroke. This is especially true if someone with ADHD has had a heart problem in the past.
51 million, YES million, people are on the drug Adderal which is approved for use in children over 6 years of age, BUT often, is also used by parents in desperation in children less than 6 years of age. I would bet most parents never tried a one week allergy diet which is so simple, safe, inexpensive and potentially and surprisingly effective. MANY MANY people have written me about the success of my diet after merely reading my book entitled "Is This Your Child" (at any library) or my even better book "Is This Your Child's World" .
Studies to "prove" safety of ADHD treatment drugs are often skewed. The studies can purposely exclude the highest risk people so the drugs seem to be safe when they might not be. In 2004 there were 20 deaths and 12 strokes (2 in children). Between 2003 and 2006, there were 81 deaths and 54 non-fatal heart-related health problems.
Google the following drugs for more information.
Elavil is an antidepressant that can rarely cause a death. It commonly causes a dry mouth, dizziness, weight gain, and headache plus many other infrequent symptoms such as blurred vision, hallucinations, confusion, insomnia, excessive perspiration, and all kinds of heart problems.
Prozac is another antidepressant. This drug is reported to cause 40,000 deaths a year! This can cause heart symptoms and hardening of the arteries. When the economy drops, depression and suicide in patients on this drug increase remarkably.
Tofranil is another antidepressant but some who take it for depression have suicidal thoughts. This drug can cause many types of heart symptoms, including infarcts and strokes plus insomnia, delusions, disorientation, problems walking and ringing ears.
Zyprexa is associated with the development of diabetes and also heart failure and possible sudden death. 17 million use this drug in 86 different countries.
Strattera also has been reported to rarely cause deaths associated with the use of this drug in children as young as 3 years old. This drug can definitely cause depression and heart symptoms, including strokes, liver damage, bellyaches, dark urine, breathing problems, dizziness and poor growth.
All I ask you is, do our homework people!!!!
