Possibly moving to Germany from UK:MCS advice needed please

Beitragvon uisa » Freitag 21. März 2014, 13:30

Hello all... sorry I don't speak German but I imagine that most of you are better linguists than I am! I'm also not sure if I'm sending this to the correct forum topic....

I am currently thinking of possibly moving from the UK to Germany for a one year university sabbatical. I have extreme chemical sensitivities, mainly to pesticides, both those used in agriculture as well as domestically (especially ant powder and wasp nest treatments... both of which are widely used in the UK).

Current possibilities include Munich and Bonn, but I would also consider Heidelberg, Hamburg, Tubingen, or Freiburg.
I would appreciate any advice please as to the relative suitability of these places for people with MCS, in terms of general environmental awareness, use of pesticides, agriculture, and heavy industry.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Uisa,

I wonder why you choose Germany for your plans.
We don't have Universities with Scent-Free Policy and safe housings.
Many of our Universities are contaminated with the typical Sick Building Chemicals like Formaldehyde.

I would rather prefer to go to the US and to study at an University which recognizes the needs of students with MCS.

Best wishes,
Melville

Short term and Long term accommodation in Munich / Bavaria

Beitragvon uisa » Mittwoch 17. September 2014, 12:28

Hello, I'm sorry but I don't speak German, but I would be VERY grateful for any help please.
I am hoping to spend some of the next year (from October) in Munich. I am looking for MCS safe accommodation (for myself and young child). First of all a short term solution (flat / b&b / hotel etc) so that I can look at houses etc, and ultimately a flat / house for the whole year. I am having trouble even finding a safe place to stay for a few nights. I don't mind whether it is in the city of Munich or anywhere within the Bavaria region (up to 2 hours away from Munich). Does anyone have any advice / recommendations please? And also any thoughts about living in Munich with environmental illness? I have particular problems with pesticides and mould.
Many thanks in advance.
Best wishes, Uisa

Hi Melville
Thank you for your reply... which unfortunately I only saw just now... I have had problems accessing and navigating my way around this site, not knowing German etc! I have just managed to get back in and to repost another query.
Thanks a lot for your thoughts... my main problem is with pesticides and so I figure that Germany is probably one of the better places. In any case the main choice is determined by my research project (I'm a faculty member).. and I figure that anywhere is better than the UK as far as pesticide use goes (especially in the domestic sphere where it is ubiquitous and US from what I can gather is MUCH worse. Formaldehyde whilst bad is not such a problem for me.
In any case, I am now looking for housing and any advice would be greatly welcomed!
All the best, Uisa
